Last updated: 19 Jul 2026 · By using CatchBadge you agree to these terms.
1. About this service
CatchBadge is a UK-based mobile-first app, operated by CatchBadge Ltd (a company registered in England & Wales, company no. 17302327), where anglers log their catches, get them verified (by AI and admin), and earn collectible digital badges. Verified catches feed a leaderboard. Optional paid features include unlimited verified entries and (when launched) physical sticker prints of your badges. Our handling of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
CatchBadge is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and by creating one you confirm that you are. We may suspend or close accounts where we have reason to believe the account holder is under 18.
We know younger anglers fish too, and we intend to support them properly rather than partially — that means age-appropriate defaults and protections designed in from the start, which is work we would rather do well than rush. Until then, please don’t create an account for anyone under 18.
3. Account & authenticity
You agree to provide accurate information at signup and to keep your login secure. One account per person. You are responsible for everything that happens on your account.
The integrity of the leaderboard depends on honest catch logging. By submitting a verified catch you confirm that:
- You personally caught the fish shown in the photos.
- The species, weight, length, location, and date are accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- The photos are unedited originals captured at the time of the catch — no AI-generated images, no composites, no photos lifted from elsewhere.
- The catch complies with all applicable UK fishing law, byelaws, close seasons, and rod licence requirements (e.g. Environment Agency rod licence for freshwater).
We use a combination of EXIF analysis, AI photo review, and admin checks to detect inauthentic submissions. Catches we determine to be faked may be rejected, removed retroactively, and the responsible account suspended or terminated without refund.
4. AI verification
Verified-catch photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude Vision API which returns a structured assessment used as one input to the verification decision. Where Claude returns high confidence and no red flags, your catch may be automatically approved without human review. Where Claude is unsure or flags concerns, a human admin reviews the catch.
Under UK GDPR Article 22 you have the right to request a human review of any automated decision — email rob@catchbadge.com with the catch ID.
5. Archive entries
"Archive" entries are personal logs visible only to you. They skip AI verification and admin review, do not appear on the leaderboard, and earn an "Archive" steel-grey badge rather than a verified gold badge. Archive entries are exempt from the verified-catch authenticity requirements above but the prohibition on illegal content (e.g. photos of protected species taken in violation of law) still applies.
6. Photo licence
You retain ownership of every photo you upload. By uploading a verified catch you grant CatchBadge a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, resize, crop, and render the photo within the service — including on the leaderboard, on your public profile, in your badge designs, and on physical sticker prints you order. This licence ends when you delete the catch or your account.
For archive entries, the licence is limited to storing the photo and displaying it to you within your account.
You confirm that you own (or have permission to use) every photo you upload, and that uploading does not infringe anyone else's rights. If you are not the photographer, you must have the photographer's permission.
7. Subscriptions (paid tier)
The free tier includes unlimited archive entries (your personal catch log). Verified catches, collectible badges, AI verification, leagues and competitions are paid-tier features. Pricing is shown on the Subscribe page and is inclusive of UK VAT where applicable.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time from Profile → Subscribe; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
- Cooling-off period. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from purchase to cancel for a full refund — unless you have already used the paid features during that window (which is treated as express consent to begin performance and waiver of cancellation rights).
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Changes apply at your next renewal.
Founders, finfluencers, skippers, and admins receive complimentary lifetime access at our sole discretion — this is a goodwill grant, not a contractual entitlement.
8. Sticker shop (when live)
The shop, when launched, sells physical printed stickers of your verified badges. The following terms apply:
- Stickers are made to your order using your personal catch photo. Under regulation 28(1)(b) of the 2013 Consumer Contracts Regulations, custom-personalised goods are exempt from the standard 14-day right to cancel once production has started.
- We will replace or refund stickers that arrive damaged, defective, or materially different from what you ordered, provided you notify us within 30 days of delivery with photos of the issue.
- We fulfil and post sticker orders ourselves. Any estimated dispatch or delivery times are indicative and not guaranteed.
- We will not produce stickers where the catch entry has been rejected, removed, or appears to violate these terms.
- We currently ship within the UK and may decline orders outside the areas we serve.
9. Acceptable use
- Don't submit fake catches, edited photos, or photos taken by someone else as your own.
- Don't impersonate other anglers or charters.
- Don't upload photos that show illegal activity, abusive content, or any third-party content you don't have rights to.
- Don't attempt to scrape, reverse-engineer, or otherwise interfere with the service.
- Don't use the service to harass other users, including via comments on shared catches.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules. Repeated or severe breaches may result in permanent bans without refund.
For the full house rules and how to report content, see our Community Guidelines.
10. No guarantee of service
We aim to keep CatchBadge available and accurate but make no warranty as to uptime, completeness, accuracy of leaderboards, or longevity. The service is provided "as is". We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. Where we discontinue a paid feature, we will refund the unused portion of the relevant subscription period.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CatchBadge accepts no liability for any loss (financial or otherwise) arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to: lost badges due to data loss, declined catch verifications, delayed sticker dispatch, or interruptions to the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) £100 or (b) the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Intellectual property
The CatchBadge name, logo, badge frame design, app code, leaderboard logic, and AI prompt are owned by CatchBadge or licensed to it. You may not reproduce, scrape, or redistribute these commercially without written permission. Personal use (sharing your own badge to social media, screenshotting your own catches) is welcome.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be notified via in-app banner or email. Continued use of CatchBadge after a change constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts, except where mandatory consumer-protection rules give you the right to bring proceedings in another jurisdiction.
15. Complaints
Complaints about content, accuracy, or service: email rob@catchbadge.com. We aim to acknowledge within 5 working days and resolve within 14. Complaints about how we handle personal data can also be referred to the Information Commissioner's Office.
